This Ole Cabinet

In case you’ve been living under a rock this week there’s big news out there in the world.

img_3622Yep.  That’s right.

George Clooney is a married man.

I know you care as much as I do.

WhoCaresI really don’t understand the fascination with celebrity weddings.

Aren’t they people just like us?

Sure they may be richer or skinnier or prettier but really…

who cares.

They’re humans…

Just like us.

So let me tell you what I am fascinated about.

Chalk paint.

That’s right.

Chalk paint.

And when my husband brought this old cabinet home from his office and wanted to know if I could do something with it, I knew exactly what it needed.

Chalk paint.

This poor cabinet had seen better days.

IMG_6990

IMG_6989It was dirty, the top was a disaster and the sticker flowers were just gross.

There was glass in only one of the doors and who knows where the other glass went.

So I cleaned it up, scraped the nasty sticker flowers off the front, mixed up some chalk paint and got down to business.

The walls in my husband’s office are khaki.

That’s his go to color.

I hate it but I’m not the one looking at it every day.

I used Valspar’s Bear Claw in a satin finish on the outside and on the inside I used some oops paint with no name I picked up from Lowe’s.

It was the perfect opportunity to get some color going in his office.

Cabinet4I decided for the doors I would wrap some canvas with burlap.

When that was done…it needed more.

My husband is an optician and owns his business so I thought some vintage optical prints would look good.

I was so right.

Cabinet3I found these awesome pictures, printed them out and mod podged them right onto the canvases.

Cabinet6The drawer is lined with some vintage scrapbook paper.

Cabinet7This ole cabinet looks 110% better than it did when he brought it home.

Cabinet12And to make this post even better…

while out thrifting I found this awesome Norman Rockwell print.

IMG_7030It was a sign.

The frame was in horrible condition but was solid wood and the mat was an ugly gold color.

IMG_7032I primed the frame and used the same chalk paint for the wood frame.

IMG_7047And yep…you guessed it…

I painted the mat with the same oops paint used on the inside of the cabinet!

Can you believe it?

You can paint the mat!

IMG_7078The cabinet and the picture go together perfectly.

Cabinet13Now this is something to be fascinated about.

Not a celebrity.

And certainly not a celebrity wedding.
